Angthong, translating as “Golden Bowl”, consisting of 42 jagged jungle islands, which rise dramatically from the sea, make up Anthong National Marine Park. Sheer limestone cliffs, a hidden lagoon and perfect sandy beaches lie like a shattered emerald necklace in an enchanting setting, which inspired Alex Garland’s novel, The Beach. Dramatic rock cliffs, bizarre rock formations and caves are there to be explored, while snorkeling among the shallow coral gardens make for a popular and fascinating day trip.
Angthong National Marine Park is a protected nature area which is famous for its natural beauty. All of the islands are uninhabited and undeveloped.
The park is sometimes closed due to inclement weather in the months of November through December.
